Srinagar: In an ongoing gunfight between security forces and terrorists, at least one terrorist has been killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Tral area on Tuesday.

A joint team of Special Operations Group (SOG) of the state police, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Mir Mohalla, Tral on Monday evening.

According to sources, terrorists were hiding in the area and started firing on security men on Monday evening with their automatic weapons. Following which security forces retaliated and launched the operation. The area was cordon off on Monday night and the fresh firing was heard on Tuesday morning.

Local sources claim that the house in which terrorists were hiding was blasted killing one terrorist.

"Terrorists were trying to escape in the dark. Additional security forces have been rushed to the area to foil any attempts by militants to escape," a senior official said.

Early on Tuesday, the security forces launched an all out offensive against the terrorists holed up in a house.

Later, security forces blasted the house from where the terrorists were firing.

It is believed that two to three terrorists are trapped in the area.

The firing has stopped but operation is still on. As a precautionary measure, mobile and internet services were suspended in adjoining areas.
