Who Is Wenjie Yang (“Mike Yang”)?
Wenjie Yang, also known as Mike Yang, is a man of many talents. He is an actor, musician, and model, who started mastering the violin at the age of five. He quickly distinguished himself among his peers and performed at some of China's most renowned concert halls, including the Guangzhou Opera House. Seeking a new outlet of artistic expression, Yang decided to move to New York to pursue acting in 2019. He is currently enrolled at the NYU Tisch School of The Arts where he is pursuing his BFA in Acting.

Who He Looks Up To:
Mike Yang looks up to artists such as Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. He has a lot of respect for the craft of acting and believes that in any art form, not just acting, one should invest themselves completely in mastering its craft before pursuing it as a career. Not just to give it respect it deserves, but to make sure its industry does not collapse due to lack of talent. Which in recent years we all can see is happening with the rapid increase of mainstream and commercial projects being produced and making billions every year.

Yang’s impeccable work has gained him admission to the renowned Atlantic Acting Studio, which has given us stars like Elizabeth Olson and Clark Gregg. No matter his accomplishments, Yang is always working on improving his skills.

A Commitment To Training
In addition to his daily classes at New York University, Yang is also training at the MN Acting Studio, with founder Matt Newton. According to Wikipedia, “Newton started his professional career as a tv and film actor, before becoming a filmmaker and acclaimed acting coach. As an actor, Matt guest starred on Dragnet, Strangers with Candy, Family Law, Dragnet, JAG, Royal Pains, Ugly Betty, Drake and Josh Go Hollywood, Miracles, The Americans, All My Children, Gilmore Girls, and starred in the films Van Wilder, Poster Boy, Dahmer, and The Men Who Stare at Goats, and appeared in countless commercials.”

In 2010 Matt started his own acting studio (MN Acting Studio) in NYC, and became a sought after acting coach. His coaching credits include Jessica Jones, Orange is the New Black, Blue Bloods, The Affair, Master of None, and Ava Duvernay’s When They See Us on Netflix.

Yang has a strong desire to not only continue the history of Chinese cinema but to also increase Asian representation in Hollywood. As a multicultural artist, he is always finding new ways of expressing his culture and incorporating his Cantonese and Mandarin in his work.
