Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Women’s Commission (WC) chairperson, MC Josephine, has denounced Alathur MP Ramya Haridas for complaining against the WC.

Josephine said, “The MP is criticizing the commission without even bothering to inquire if it had registered a case.”

At a media event organised at Kollam Press Club, Ramya had stated that she was yet to receive justice and blamed the Women’s Commission and the government of inaction regarding her complaint over Vijaraghavan’s deprecatory comments against her.

Following this, Josephine condemned Ramya’s statement saying that the MP is complaining against the Women’s Commission for political gains. She said that Ramya had not submitted any complaint to the WC regarding LDF convener A Vijayaraghavan’s derogatory remarks against her. She claimed that the WC had registered a case suo-moto based on media reports and that investigation is currently ongoing.

Ramya had lodged a complaint against Vijayaraghavan with the chief election officer and Alathur DSP in April. She had sought legal action against him for outraging her modesty and tainting her public image. Vijayaraghavan, in an election convention, had said, “The girl who is contesting from Alathur (referring to Haridas) has met IUML leader PK Kunhalikutty. I don’t know what will happen to her now.”

When the controversy had erupted, Josephine had spoken out against Vijayaraghavan’s comments, saying that all leaders should be more careful while making public speeches. She had also stated that there was no defence or justification for humiliating women in public.

VS Achuthanandan had also criticized Vijayaraghavan, saying that his comment was improper.
