Mumbai: Shahid Kapoor starrer Kabir Singh is an official remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy, which was also helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The original had featured Tollywood heartthrob Vijay Deverakonda in the titular role. The movie teaser sees Kapoor sporting an intense and aggressive look that may remind you of his Udta Punjab persona, Tommy Singh. Every frame of the video is gripping and will leave you hooked on to the screen.

The movie’s teaser opens with a voiceover introducing Kapoor’s character Dr Kabir Raj Dev Singh, who is supposed to be the best student to have graduated from the prestigious Delhi Institute of Medical Science with “an impeccable academic record.” In the video, Kapoor is on the terrace of a building and putting a bottle of alcohol into a black water tank and then drinks from it. The story is of an alcoholic surgeon with anger management issues, who goes on a self-destructive path after his ex-lover marries someone else.

Talking about the role Kapoor said in an earlier interview with PTI, “The original was very raw, very honest. I don’t think there was anything in the film that was for effect. I just felt it said things as it is and was a brazen journey of a character who goes through an emotional arc which is extreme. The character is very fascinating for me as an actor because the emotional arc... is very original. I loved it and Vijay Deverakonda, who played Arjun, did it so well."

He also praised the original Telugu blockbuster saying, "The original was Arjun Reddy, based in Hyderabad and Bangalore. This is Kabir Singh, which is based in Delhi and Mumbai. Maybe Arjun and Kabir are cousins but they are not the same person. My journey is only to find Kabir Singh."

Kabir Singh is all set to hit the theatres on June 21, 2019
